The Difference Between Pins And Axle Pins

The function of a pin is to position and fasten components; pins are available in two types: cylindrical and conical. Installation typically involves either a press-fit method or driving the pin in using a soft-metal hammer. A pin is generally a small, conical piece of wood or metal-often featuring a pointed tip-used to fasten or secure various items (such as wooden boards, roof tiles, shoe soles, shoe uppers, furniture moldings, and structural components) or to plug holes.

 

A pin shaft is a type of standardized fastener that can serve both as a static fixed connection and as a pivot point allowing for relative motion between connected parts; it is primarily used at the articulation points of two components to form a hinged joint. Pin shafts are typically secured using a cotter pin, offering reliable performance and ease of disassembly. The international standard for pin shafts is ISO 2341:1986, while the domestic standard is GB/T 882-2008.

 

The Distinction: There are many varieties of pins, including cylindrical pins, conical pins, spring pins, and pin shafts. Most types of pins are utilized for fixed connections, whereas pin shafts are frequently employed at movable hinged joints.
