A clevis pin is a type of standardized fastener used to establish either a static fixed connection or a connection that permits relative motion between joined parts; it is primarily employed at the articulation points of two components to form a hinged joint. Clevis pins are typically secured using a cotter pin, offering reliable performance and ease of disassembly. The function of a pin is to position and fasten components; they are available in two types: cylindrical and conical. Pins are generally installed using one of two methods: press-fitting or driving them in with a soft-faced hammer. A "pin" (in a broader sense) typically refers to a small, conical piece of wood or metal-often featuring a pointed tip or head-used to fasten or secure various items (such as wooden boards, roof tiles, shoe soles and uppers, furniture moldings, and structural components), or to plug holes and cavities.
