Overtightening Automotive Bolts Can Make It Difficult To Remove Spark Plugs And Wheel Lug Nuts.

If bolts on a vehicle are overtightened, it can easily compromise the proper functioning of various components. For instance, regarding spark plugs, if the bolt is tightened excessively, the electrode gap becomes too narrow; this makes the plug highly susceptible to burning out during operation. Conversely, if the gap is too wide, the ignition spark weakens, potentially leading to misfires. Overtightening can also cause a deviation in the spark plug's arc ignition angle, thereby diminishing the vehicle's overall ignition efficiency.

 

Furthermore, wheel lug nuts serve to secure the wheel assembly-including the brake discs and related components-to the vehicle. If these nuts are overtightened, removing them to replace parts such as brake pads or discs becomes extremely difficult and inconvenient. Vehicle bolts are subject to specific torque specifications; each component requires a precise tightening force to function correctly. Overtightening can result in bolt fracture, while undertightening can lead to bolts becoming loose-both of which pose significant safety risks.
